Static Lists (aka Lists)

Lists enable our users to create a list of voters that can be used to run their field campaign. Lists are a snapshot of the people who matched a Universe or Saved Filter criteria at the time when the list was created.

Once a list is created the targets on the list remain static or unchanging.

  • This is a key difference between a List and a Universe or Saved Filters.
  • The only reason a static list may change is if a target falls off the voter file.
    • For example, if a target “x” is part of List A and falls off the voter file in the future, when a user goes to download List A again target “x” will not be part of the export.
    • If a voter moves to the district and registers to vote, they will not be included in a list that was created previously.

Creating a List

Data Managers, Workspace Admins, and Owners can create a list from a saved filter (built and saved using the home page filters) or from a saved Universe (built and saved in Universe Builder).

To create a list, click on the List icon in the lefthand menu. From there:

  • Click the “Create a List” button in the top right corner,
  • A box will appear where user is prompted to provide a name for their list,
    • List names can have a maximum of 50 characters and can use upper case/lower case letters, numbers, special characters
    • List names can not be edited once it has been created
  • Select if you want to create the list from a Universe or a Saved Filter
  • Select one of your Universes or Saved Filters from the drop down
  • Click Submit.

Once a List has been created, it can be used to create a canvassing Program. It can also be downloaded.

Logic for List Creation

When a list is created, RunningMate:

  • Runs the selected Universe or Saved Filter that was chosen by the user,
  • Stores the voter IDs of the targets on the list as a static snapshot,
  • The list of voter IDs remains static over time. However, any dynamic data (e.g., phone numbers, support scores) pulled during export reflects the current data.
    • An exception is if a voter falls off the voter file. In this case when the user goes to download the list, they will not show up in the export.
  • Once created, saved lists are not linked to their source. Updates or deletions to the original Universe or Saved Filter do not affect a saved List.

View Your Saved Lists

By default when a user navigates to the Lists page they will see their saved list(s), if any exist. This view will show each saved list as a row with the following column headings and data. Each column can be sorted by ascending or descending order:

  • List Name
  • Created On
    • Displays date and time of when the list was created
  • Source
    • Displays whether the list was created from a Universe or Saved Filter
  • Registered Voters
    • Count of registered voters on the list
  • Unregistered Voters
    • If the Customer account has unregistered data enabled at the time of list creation, the column will show the count of unregistered voters on the list
    • If the Customer account does not have unregistered data enabled for the account, “N/A” displays
    • If a Pro Customer account later upgrades to Pro+ and gains access to unregistered data, only newly created lists from the point when the account was upgraded to Pro+ will contain a count for unregistered voters
      • Previously created lists will have an unregistered voters count of 0 as at time of creation there were no unregistered voters on the list

Each list row also has an CTAs (buttons) for viewing the criteria that was used to create the list and for download.

Downloading a List

There are two download/export options for lists:

  • “Download”
    • This download type is an in-depth voter file, with vote history, the districts a person is in, etc.
  • “Download for Outreach”
    • This download type is a simplified version with fewer columns, but it will include the contact information we have on file for that person. It also includes blank columns that can be utilized for adding support scores and tags in bulk.
    • This download type can be easily imported back into the platform, if a user chose to add tags and support scores to the spreadsheet.

List Criteria

When a list is created the application saves the criteria (filter settings) that were used and the source from which the list was created from. You can view this criteria by clicking on the bullet point list icon to the right of the row for the list in question. A modal will appear that lists all the criteria used to create the list and the name of the Universe or Saved Filter that the list was created from.

Note: Subsequent changes to the filter criteria on the Saved Filter or Universe will have no effect on lists that were created from it.

Editions and Roles and Permissions

  • All editions types (Lite, Pro, and Pro+) can access the Lists page and create lists
  • Lite users cannot download
    • Lite users will see an icon when they click download that will inform them that they need to upgrade their account to download
  • Owners, admins, and data managers can access the Lists page and use all features of Lists
  • Data viewers and volunteers have no access to the Lists page and will not see the Lists icon in the left side navigation menu

Other Notes

  • There is no limit to the number of lists a user can save
  • Lists are restricted by district so a list created in one district is not accessible in another district, if the user has multiple districts on their workspace
